ABS business sentiment snapshot taken prior to USA and Ansett influences
The Survey of Business Expectations data released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that business profit expectations continued their upward trend and that the rate of decline in operating income has slowed for the first time in two years.
However, the Director of the Survey, Ms Merry Branson said the results, which were enumerated between 17 July and 4 September 2001, do not reflect the impact on business sentiment from events in the US last week or by the suspension of operations of Ansett Airlines.
The next Survey will be enumerated between 16 October and 4 December 2001 and the results released on 20 December.
Details are available in Australian Business Expectations December Qtr 2001 and September Qtr 2002 (cat. no. 5250.0) available from ABS bookshops. If you wish to purchase a copy of this publication, contact the ABS Bookshop in your capital city.
