ABS Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Publication to be Presented to ATSIC at Parliament House Launch


The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will present the publication Housing and Infrastructure in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, Australia (cat. no. 4710.0) to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission during a launch at the Mural Hall, Parliament House tomorrow. Senator John Herron, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, will give the keynote address.

The publication presents results from the National Community Housing and Infrastructure Needs Survey conducted from August 1999 to October 1999. It contains summary information on the infrastructure of all discrete Indigenous communities such as water, electricity, sewerage, drainage, solid waste, transport, communication, education, health, and community facilities. It also includes information at the National and State levels.

Order of Events:

10:40: Guests arrive at the Mural Hall.
11:00: Deputy Australian Statistician Tim Skinner welcomes guests and presents Housing and Infrastructure in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, Australia to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission.
11:20: ATSIC representative responds.
11:25: Senator Herron addresses guests.
11:35: Tim Skinner invites guests to view displays and take refreshments.
12:00 Conclusion
