Household Expenditure Survey results to be released this Thursday

The results of the 2003-04 Household Expenditure Survey will be released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics this Thursday August 11 at 11.30am (AEST).

This major survey, held every five years, presents a snapshot on the spending habits of Australian households.

The Household Expenditure Survey was conducted between July 2003 and June 2004 and collected detailed expenditure information from approximately 7,000 households throughout Australia.

The following products will be available from the ABS web site <www.abs.gov.au> at embargo time:
    • Household Expenditure Survey, Australia 2003-04: Summary of Results (cat. no. 6530.0) which contains summary tables of the 2003–04 HES results. It includes tables of expenditure on broad categories of goods and services by: household income quintile group; principal source of income; state of residence; household composition; tenure type; and characteristics of the reference person
    • A datacube of state/territory tables for each of the tables in the Summary of Results publication
    • Household Expenditure Survey, Australia 2003-04: Detailed Expenditure Items (cat. no 6535.0) contains tables of expenditure at the finest level of detail for goods and services (over 400 categories). Tables are cross classified by income quintile and state of usual residence. Data for Canberra and Darwin are also included.

A media release will be issued at the time of release containing a package of national, state and capital city data.
