Tasmanian sawn timber production falls by more than 6 per cent
According to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today, the overall sawmilling output of timber for this June quarter was 82,917 cubic metres, a 6.1 per cent decrease compared to the June quarter in 2000.
Hardwood sawn timber production decreased by 4.3 per cent to 39,248 cubic metres and softwood timber production (43,669 cubic metres) also decreased 7.6 per cent over the same period.
Sawmilling output for 2000-01 was down 7.5 per cent from the previous financial year to 338,550 cubic metres.
Log deliveries to sawmills and plywood mills for the June quarter 2001 fell 10.8 per cent compared to the same period last year, to 216,859 cubic metres.
Logs delivered to sawmills and plywood mills in the 2000-01 financial year also fell to 865,820 cubic metres, a decrease of 7.5 per cent compared with 1999-2000.
