Bureau Executives Honoured in Queen's Birthday List
The former Australian Statistician, Dennis John Trewin, and the Assistant Statistician, Census and Geography, Paul Stephen Williams, are among those honoured in the 2007 Queen's Birthday Honours list which was announced yesterday, 11 June.

Dennis Trewin was awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia: "For service to statistics as the Australian Statistician, particularly through the reform of reporting standards and practices and support for a range of national and international professional organisations, and to the community." He served as the Australian Statistician from July 2000 to January 2007.

Paul Williams was awarded the Public Service Medal: "For outstanding public service through leadership of the 2006 Census of Population and Housing and to census data collection, nationally and internationally."

The Acting Australian Statistician, Peter Harper, said the awards reflected the outstanding contributions that Mr Trewin and Mr Williams had made in the area of statistics.

"Staff of the Australian Bureau of Statistics are delighted to see their former CEO, and a serving officer, recognized in this way and warmly congratulate them," he said.
