Purpose
To measure the value of all engineering construction work undertaken in Australia.

Description
The results from this survey together with the results from the Building Activity Survey, provide a complete quarterly picture of building and construction activity in Australia.

This survey is a quarterly sample survey of approximately 2,400 respondents. The survey framework includes all enterprises recorded on the ABS Register of Businesses and classified to the construction industry and all other units known to be undertaking engineering construction work.

Data are collected by mail questionnaire.

Data Detail
  • Value of engineering construction work done;
  • Value of commencements and work yet to be done, by state; and
  • Sector undertaking the work and for whom the work is being done.

    In relation to transport, data are available on engineering construction work on roads, highways, bridges, railways and harbours.

    Geographic Coverage
    Australia, States and Territories.

    Frequency of Data Availability
    Data are released quarterly.

    Historical Data
    The survey was first conducted in 1986.
