SUMMARY

  • Water use on Australian Farms increased by 32 per cent in 2012-13, to a total of 11.9 million megalitres, up 2.9 million megalitres on last year.
  • 11.1 million megalitres (or 93 per cent of the total use) was for irrigation.
  • 43 per cent (or 5.1 million megalitres) of water for use on Australian farms was sourced from irrigation channels, with 25 per cent (or 2.9 million megalitres) being sourced from rivers, creeks and lakes.
