SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS


TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES
  • Trend - The September 2010 trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales (85 392) decreased by 0.3% when compared with August 2010.
  • Seasonally Adjusted - The September 2010 seasonally adjusted estimate for new motor vehicle sales (85 800) increased by 0.9% when compared with August 2010.


SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
  • Trend - When comparing trend estimates for September 2010 with August 2010, sales of Passenger vehicles decreased by 1.0%, while sales of Sports utility vehicles increased by 1.1%. Over the same period sales of Other vehicles decreased by 0.4%.
  • Seasonally Adjusted - When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for September 2010 with August 2010, sales of Passenger vehicles and Sports utility vehicles increased by 1.6% and 4.1% respectively, while sales of Other vehicles decreased by 4.4%.


SALES BY STATE
  • Trend - When comparing September 2010 with August 2010, Victoria recorded the largest percentage decrease with 1.0%, followed by Queensland (0.5%) and Northern Territory (0.4%). Western Australia recorded the largest percentage increase with 0.8%, followed by the Australian Capital Territory (0.2%).
  • Seasonally Adjusted - In seasonally adjusted terms, Tasmania recorded the largest percentage increase of 12.8%, followed by Queensland (3.5%) and South Australia (2.3%). The largest percentage decrease for new motor vehicle sales occurred in Victoria (1.2%).
