OCTOBER KEY POINTS


TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES
  • Trend - The October 2010 trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales (84 964) decreased by 0.4% when compared with September 2010.
  • Seasonally Adjusted - The October 2010 seasonally adjusted estimate for new motor vehicle sales (85 260) decreased by 0.6% when compared with September 2010.


SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
  • Trend - When comparing trend estimates for October 2010 with September 2010, sales of Passenger vehicles decreased by 0.7%, while sales of Sports utility vehicles increased by 0.9%. Over the same period sales of Other vehicles decreased by 0.9%.
  • Seasonally Adjusted - When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for October 2010 with September 2010, sales of Passenger vehicles decreased by 1.6%, while sales of Sports utility vehicles increased by 1.5%. Over the same period sales of Other vehicles decreased by 0.4%.


SALES BY STATE
  • Trend - Seven of the eight states and territories contributed to the national decrease in trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales when comparing October 2010 with September 2010. South Australia recorded the largest percentage decrease with 0.9%, followed by the Northern Territory (0.8%) and Victoria (0.5%). Tasmania recorded a percentage increase of 0.5% over the same period.
  • Seasonally Adjusted - In seasonally adjusted terms, sales of new motor vehicles decreased in five of the eight states and territories for October 2010 when compared with September 2010. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage decrease of 5.9%, followed by South Australia (5.4%) and Western Australia (5.2%). The largest percentage increase for new motor vehicle sales occurred in Victoria (1.8%).
