SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS


TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES
  • Trend estimates: The September 2014 trend estimate (93 343) has increased by 0.1% when compared with August 2014.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: The September 2014 seasonally adjusted estimate (94 285) has increased by 2.9% when compared with August 2014.


SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
  • Trend estimates: When comparing national trend estimates for September 2014 with August 2014, sales of Passenger and Other vehicles decreased by 0.2% and 0.1% respectively. Over the same period, Sports utility vehicles increased by 0.6%.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for September 2014 with August 2014, sales of all vehicle types increased. Passenger, Sports utility and Other vehicles increased by 0.5%, 6.8% and 2.3% respectively.


SALES BY STATE
  • Trend estimates: Five of the eight states and territories experienced an increase in new motor vehicle sales when comparing September 2014 with August 2014. The Australian Capital Territory recorded the largest percentage increase (0.9%), followed by New South Wales (0.4%) and South Australia (0.3%). Over the same period, the Northern Territory recorded the largest decrease in sales of 1.2%.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: All states and territories experienced an increase in new motor vehicle sales when comparing September 2014 with August 2014. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage increase (14.2%) followed by Western Australia (5.1%) and both Queensland and the Northern Territory (4.5%).
