VALUE OF CONSTRUCTION WORK DONE, VOLUME TERMS

Trend estimates

• The trend estimate for the value of total engineering construction work done rose 3.9% in the March 2006 quarter. The trend has now risen for twenty consecutive quarters.
• The trend estimate for the value of work done for the private sector rose 3.2% in the March 2006 quarter. Work done for the public sector rose 4.3%.

• The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of total engineering construction work done in the March 2006 quarter rose 2.0%, to $9,769.7m, the tenth consecutive quarterly rise in this series.
• The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of work done for the private sector fell 3.5% in the March 2006 quarter. This is the first fall in the series since the September 2004 quarter. The value of work done for the public sector rose 10.6%, to $4,098.1m.

• The value of work done in the March 2006 quarter fell 6.7%, to $9,209.8m following a 13.3% rise in the previous quarter.
• The value of work done for the private sector fell 13.8%, to $5,349.5m in the March 2006 quarter, following a 13.9% rise in the previous quarter. Total work done for the public sector rose 5.2%, to $3,860.3m.

SIGNIFICANT REVISIONS THIS QUARTER

Compared with the current price original terms estimates published in the previous issue of this publication:

• The March quarter 2005 estimates have been revised upwards by $198.9m for work commenced and $198.8m for work done.
• The June quarter 2005 estimates have been revised upwards by $125m for work commenced and $125m for work done.
• The September quarter 2005 estimates have been revised upwards by $139.9m for work commenced and $130.5m for work done.
• The December quarter 2005 estimates have been revised downwards by $38.9m for work commenced, upwards by $91.9m for work done, and downwards by $105.9m for work yet to be done.
