  • About this Release

This Expanded Confidentialised Unit Record File (CURF) from the 2005-2006 Multi-Purpose Household Survey provides statistics on five topics: Work Related Injuries; Participation in Sport and Physical Activity; Sports Attendance; Attendance at Cultural Venues and Events; and Household Use of Information Technology.

The Work Related Injuries topic provides information on persons aged 15 years and older who have experienced a work related injury in the previous 12 months. Details are provided on the job in which the work related injury occurred, the number of hours usually worked and the person was a shift or contract worker. Information is also provided about the injury, how it occurred and whether compensation was sought.

The Participation in Sport and Physical Activity topic provides information on persons aged 15 years and older who take part in organised and informal physical activity. Information is provided on the type of involvement (player, coach, umpire etc.) and the frequency and duration of involvement.

The Sports Attendance topic provides information on how often persons aged 15 years and over attended a sports event over the previous 12 months.

The Attendance at Cultural Venues and Events topic provides information on how often persons aged 15 years and over attended selected cultural venues or events over the previous 12 months.

The Household Use of Information Technology topic provides information on both household and personal access to, and use of, computers and the Internet both at home and in other locations. It also provides information on the main purposes and frequency of access to the Internet, details on the technology used to access the Internet and on the types and value of goods and services ordered on the Internet.

Users are able to tabulate, manipulate and analyse data to their individual specifications. Steps to confidentialise the dataset are taken to ensure integrity of data, optimise its content and maintain confidentiality of respondents. They include removing any information that might uniquely identify an individual, reducing the level of detail for some items and collapsing some categories.

The CURF includes metadata files and documentation to enable users to read the data into SAS, SPSS or Stata software. Users can then analyse the data using any method supported by SAS, SPSS or Stata, including cross tabulation and correlative analyses.

The Expanded CURF is only available through the Remote Access Data Laboratory (RADL). An information paper explaining data content, technical details and conditions of use is available on the ABS web site and via the 'Information by' link on the RADL home page.
