MARCH KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, March 2013 imports on an international merchandise trade basis were $18,121m, an increase of $293m (2%) on the revised February 2013 merchandise imports of $17,828m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $329m (2%) between February and March 2013.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits fell $253m (1%) between February and March 2013 to $20,170m. Capital goods fell $578m (11%), with capital goods n.e.s. down $235m (19%) and machinery and industrial equipment down $144m (8%). Intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $292m (3%), non-monetary gold rose $28m (8%) and consumption goods rose $6m.


REVISIONS
  • Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
  • The preliminary balance of payments debits estimates incorporate the latest available data.
