DECEMBER KEY POINTS
SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS
- Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during December 2010 (507,300 movements) increased 0.2% compared with November 2010 (506,300 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.6% in October 2010 and 0.4% in November 2010. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 5.2% higher than in December 2009.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During December 2010, short-term visitor arrivals (505,800 movements) recorded an increase of 0.3% compared with November 2010 (504,300 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 2.1% for October 2010 and a monthly increase of 1.1% for November 2010.
- Original estimates: There were 676,700 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in December 2010.
SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES
- Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures from Australia during December 2010 (601,500 movements) decreased 0.2% compared with November 2010 (602,400 movements). This followed a marginal monthly increase for October 2010 and a marginal decrease for November 2010. The current trend estimate for departures is 8.4% higher than in December 2009.
- Seasonally adjusted estimates: During December 2010, short-term resident departures (603,800 movements) increased by 0.2% compared with November 2010 (602,300 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 1.5% for October 2010 and an increase of 0.8% for November 2010.
- Original estimates: There were 806,700 short-term resident departures from Australia during December 2010.
