FEBRUARY KEY POINTS


SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during February 2011 (498,400 movements) decreased 0.4% compared with January 2011 (500,500 movements). This followed monthly decreases of 0.2% in December 2010 and 0.3% in January 2011. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 3.6% higher than in February 2010.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During February 2011, short-term visitor arrivals (492,400 movements) recorded a decrease of 2.2% compared with January 2011 (503,800 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 0.4% in December 2010 and a slight decrease in January 2011.
  • Original estimates: There were 557,000 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in February 2011.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during February 2011 (612,300 movements) increased 0.4% compared with January 2011 (609,500 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.4% for December 2010 and 0.5% for January 2011. The current trend estimate for departures is 8.8% higher than in February 2010.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During February 2011, short-term resident departures (610,800 movements) decreased by 1.2% compared with January 2011 (618,100 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.4% for December 2010 and 2.3% for January 2011.
  • Original estimates: There were 455,000 short-term resident departures from Australia during February 2011.
