FEBRUARY KEY POINTS
CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
This is the first issue of Job Vacancies, Australia since May 2008 due to the suspension of the Job Vacancies Survey (JVS) in 2008/2009.
Caution should be used when comparing estimates from November 2009 onwards with estimates for May 2008 and previous periods, due to the changes outlined below.
GAP IN SERIES
As a result of JVS being suspended, no original estimates were produced for five quarters between August 2008 and August 2009 inclusive. The ABS cannot produce reliable estimates by collecting this missing data retrospectively. As a consequence, both seasonally adjusted and trend estimates cannot be produced for the five quarters.
STATISTICAL CHANGES IMPLEMENTED IN NOVEMBER 2009
A new sample is being used in the JVS from November 2009, based on ANZSIC 2006 and incorporating improvements to the survey frame. For details see Explanatory Notes paragraphs 10 to 12.
IMPLEMENTATION OF ANZSIC 2006
From November 2009, industry statistics presented are on the basis of Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC), 2006 edition. Industry data up to May 2008 are only available on an ANZSIC 1993 basis. For further details, see Explanatory Notes paragraphs 20 to 22.
TIME SERIES ESTIMATES
Seasonal adjustments factors for November 2009 onwards are set to be the same as existed prior to the suspension of JVS. Trend estimates are not available due to the suspension of the survey in 2008/2009. For further details, see Explanatory Notes paragraphs 23 to 28.
