MARCH KEY POINTS


TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES

  • Trend estimates: The March 2015 trend estimate (94 735) has increased by 0.4% when compared with February 2015.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: The March 2015 seasonally adjusted estimate (96 158) has increased by 0.5% when compared with February 2015.


SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
  • Trend estimates: When comparing national trend estimates for March 2015 with February 2015, all vehicle categories recorded an increase in sales. Sports utility vehicles recorded the largest increase (0.7%) while sales for Passenger and Other vehicles increased by 0.3% and 0.2% respectively.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for March 2015 with February 2015 sales of Passenger and Other vehicles increased by 4.5% and 1.8% respectively. Over the same period, Sports utility vehicles decreased by 5.4%.


SALES BY STATE
  • Trend estimates: Seven of the eight states and territories experienced an increase in new motor vehicle sales when comparing March 2015 with February 2015. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage increase (2.1%), followed by the Australian Capital Territory (1.1%) and Queensland (1.0%). Over the same period, Western Australia was the only jurisdiction to record a decrease in sales (0.2%). New South Wales and Victoria had a record month for new motor vehicle sales.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: Four of the states and territories experienced an increase in new motor vehicle sales when comparing March 2015 with February 2015. Queensland recorded the largest percentage increase (3.3%) followed by the Australian Capital Territory (1.8%) and Victoria (1.3%). Over the same period, the Northern Territory recorded the largest decrease in sales (8.2%).
