JULY KEY POINTS


TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES
  • Trend - The July 2010 trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales (86 662) decreased by 0.2% when compared with June 2010.
  • Seasonally Adjusted - The July 2010 seasonally adjusted estimate for new motor vehicle sales (85 019) decreased by 2.6% when compared to June 2010.


SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
  • Trend - When comparing trend estimates for July 2010 to June 2010, sales decreased for Passenger vehicles (0.9%) and Other vehicles (0.3%). Sales of Sports utility vehicles increased by 1.7% over the same period.
  • Seasonally Adjusted - When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for July 2010 to June 2010, sales decreased for Passenger vehicles (4.3%) and Other vehicles (4.2%), while Sports utility vehicles increased by 3.2%


SALES BY STATE
  • Trend - Three out of eight states and territories contributed to the national decrease in trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales when comparing July 2010 with June 2010. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage decrease with 2.1%, followed by Queensland (1.1%) and Victoria (0.2%). This was offset by increases in other states and territories. Northern Territory recorded the largest percentage increase with 0.9%, followed by Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory, both with 0.7%.
  • Seasonally Adjusted - In seasonally adjusted terms, sales of new motor vehicles decreased in five of the eight states or territories for July 2010 when compared to June 2010. Tasmania recorded the largest percentage decrease of 5.0%, followed by Queensland (4.4%) and South Australia (3.6%). The largest percentage increase for new motor vehicle sales occurred in the Northern Territory (7.8%) and Western Australia (3.7%).
