ABOUT THIS ISSUE

This product contains State, Territory and Australian life tables for males and females for the current reference period (2014-2016). It also contains life expectancy at birth estimates for males, females and persons for Statistical Area Level 4 (SA4). Internationally, life tables are used to measure mortality. In its simplest form, a life table is generated from age-specific death rates and the resulting values are used to measure mortality, survivorship and life expectancy.

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

This issue includes the first release of (1) Deaths statistics based on the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) 2016 boundaries and (2) Deaths on Norfolk Island from 1 July 2016.

FUTURE CHANGES

Statistical Area Level 4 data cube: From the next issue of this publication (2015-2017), this data cube will contain estimates for the current reference period only.
