This release contains statistics from the 2015-16 Major Labour Costs (MLC) survey. The MLC survey is designed to provide statistics on the main labour costs incurred by employers as a consequence of employing labour. This includes employee earnings, employer-funded contributions to superannuation, workers' compensation costs, payroll tax and fringe benefits tax. Estimates are classified by private and public sectors, and states and territories.
NOTES ON ESTIMATES
Care should be taken when comparing estimates in this release with estimates from previous MLC releases. The MLC survey is designed to produce an accurate 'snapshot' of data at a point in time. It should not be used to compare estimates over time, due to factors such as changes in methodology, accounting standards and sample composition.
Any discrepancies between totals and the sum of the component items are due to rounding.
