ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

This is a CD-ROM product compiling ABS Indigenous products, including maps, publications, Indigenous and Remoteness profiles from the 2006 Census, fact sheets and data quality statements. This collection of Indigenous and related statistical information brings together ABS products freely available on www.abs.gov.au into a format that is portable across remote Australia, and is a comprehensive resource of Indigenous data.

• clients who have limited access to the ABS website, particularly remote communities that have difficulty accessing online products
• clients who require access to the Census 2006 Indigenous Profile data in bulk.

It is produced in CD-ROM format on a five yearly basis.

To read the data, a spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel or Lotus 123 is recommended, however, a text editor may also
be used.

DATA IN THIS PRODUCT

This CD-ROM product is based on the Australian Indigenous Geographic Classification (AIGC), which comprises Indigenous Regions, Indigenous Areas and Indigenous Locations, and provides a geographic standard for the publication of statistics about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. It includes Indigenous profiles down to Indigenous location level, publications, fact sheets and data quality statements. The Indigenous Profiles from the 2006 Census show key characteristics of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians for each Indigenous Region, Area and Location. This information is spread over three disks, by state. In addition, there are geographic concordance tables to match Collection Districts (CDs) with Indigenous Locations and to match 2001 CDs to 2006 Indigenous Regions. There are also Census fact sheets, data quality statements, and other related publications, on each disk.
