KEY POINTS

  • In 2013-14, the total value of goods and services exports was $330b, a $30b (9%) increase from the previous year.
  • The total number of good exporters was 45,306 in 2013-14, an increase from 2012-13 of 2,261 (5%).
  • The value of goods exports increased to $273b, a $26b (11%) rise from the previous year.
  • 97% of the increase in goods exports value was accounted for by 'Large' businesses.
  • 71% of the increase in the number of goods exporters was accounted for by 'Small' businesses.
  • The total count of Services Exporters is estimated as 2,788 in 2013-14. Services exporters in the "Less than $1m" value range are the largest contributors to this total (1,662 exporters).

ABOUT THIS ISSUE

This publication presents an analysis of the characteristics and international trading activities of Australian exporters in 2013-14. The information is compiled as a by-product of producing regular monthly and quarterly statistics on Australia's merchandise trade and international trade in services. Table 1 presents an overview covering exporters of both goods and services. Tables 2 to 9, and 11 present more detailed information on goods exporters. Table 10 presents additional information on services exporters. These tables are available for free from the 'Downloads' tab of this publication on the ABS website.
