ABOUT THIS RELEASE

This is a confidentialised and simplified version of the file used to store the data collected in the 1999 Child Care Survey. See the 1999 issue of publication 4402.0, Child Care Australia, for details of this collection. The data in the CURF differs from the data used by the ABS to generate published statistics in two respects. Firstly, the CURF data has been confidentialised to ensure that it is not possible to identify individual respondents. This process involves removing some data items and collapsing selected categories of others. This is done in such a way that the loss of accuracy and introduction of distortion is minimized. Secondly, the data file has been simplified by converting it from a hierarchical to a flat format and removing data items which were duplicated across different hierarchical levels. The resulting data file contains one record for each of the fully responding selected children (9831) each of which contains 94 data items. The CURF also includes metadata files and documentation to enable users to read the data into their analysis software of choice. Users can then analyse the data using any method supported by their software, including cross tabulation and correlative analyses.

The 1993 Child Care Survey CURF CC93 has 13,490 records with 53 data items. Price $5,500.
The 1996 Child Care Survey CURF CC96 has 11,419 records with 83 data items. Price $5,500.
