DECEMBER KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, the December 2012 merchandise imports were $18,457m, a decrease of $4,398m (19%) on the November 2012 merchandise imports of $22,855m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms fell $4,146m (18%) between November and December 2012.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits fell $1,651m (8%) from $21,857m in November 2012 to $20,206m in December 2012. Capital goods fell $1,197m (19%), intermediate and other merchandise goods fell $373m (4%) and consumption goods fell $91m (2%). Non–monetary gold rose $11m (3%).


REVISIONS
  • Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
  • The preliminary balance of payments debits estimates incorporate the latest available data.
