OCTOBER KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for October 2017:
  • Cattle slaughter decreased by 4,480 head (or 0.7%) in October 2017 when compared with September 2017 and there was a year-on-year increase of 36,110 head (or 6.3%).
  • The number of calves slaughtered in October 2017 increased by 2,090 head (or 5.3%) month-on-month and, compared to this period last year, increased by 2,770 head (or 7.2%).
  • Sheep slaughter in October 2017 increased by 19,150 head (or 2.6%) compared with September 2017 and was up 220,150 head (or 42%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter increased by 9,150 head (or 0.5%) for October 2017. Compared with October 2016, slaughter increased by 34,240 head (or 1.8%).
  • Pig slaughter increased in October 2017 by 2,060 head (or 0.5%) when compared to September 2017 and continued to increase year-on-year with slaughter up 26,250 head (or 6.2%) on this period last year.
