JANUARY KEY POINTS


ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
  • In original terms, January 2014 imports on an international merchandise trade basis were $21,588m, a rise of $1,075m (5%) on the revised December 2013 merchandise imports of $20,513m.


PRELIMINARY BALANCE OF PAYMENTS GOODS IMPORTS
  • Preliminary analysis shows that goods debits (imports) on a balance of payments basis in original terms rose $94m between December 2013 and January 2014.
  • In seasonally adjusted terms, goods debits rose $162m (1%) between December 2013 and January 2014 to $22,705m. Intermediate and other merchandise goods rose $742m (8%) and consumption goods rose $47m (1%). Capital goods fell $532m (9%) and non-monetary gold fell $95m (27%).


REVISIONS
  • Revisions have been made to the previous six months to incorporate the latest administrative data relating to international merchandise trade.
  • The preliminary balance of payments debits estimates incorporate the latest available data.
