ABOUT BUSINESS USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STATISTICS

Key indicators of business use of IT include: internet access; the use of broadband; web presence; social media presence; and internet commerce (i.e. the placing and receiving of orders via the internet). These indicators are collected annually, while all other statistics in this release are collected biennially.

Between 2012-13 and 2013-14, most key indicators of business use of information technology increased. In 2013-14 almost a third of all businesses had a social media presence compared with a quarter having a presence in the previous year.

Income from orders received via the internet increased from $246 billion in 2012-13 to $267 billion in 2013-14, an increase of 8%.
