JUNE KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings declined for the seventh consecutive month, to 868,000. This was the lowest figure recorded since December 2003.
  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings declined for the sixth consecutive month, to 647,000.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production declined for seventh consecutive month, to 17,900 tonnes. This was the lowest figure recorded since November 2003.
  • The trend estimate for beef production decreased for the sixth consecutive month, to 172,000 tonnes.

This publication presents statistics on livestock slaughterings and meat production. These statistics are based on a monthly collection from abattoirs and other major slaughtering establishments.
