  • The total number of dwelling units commenced fell by 12.9% in the March quarter 2007, to 34,654.
  • New private sector house commencements fell by 14.3%, to 23,414. Commencements fell in all states and territories.
  • New private sector other residential building fell by 11.1%, to 10,157. Commencements fell in states and territories other than New South Wales, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.
  • The total number of public sector dwellings commenced rose by 10.5%, to 820. This follows a revised fall of 27.3%, to 742 in the December quarter 2006.
