This is the final release of Mining Operations, Australia (cat. no. 8415.0). It presents national estimates for the mining industry of employment at 30 June 2007 and major economic and financial aggregates: income and expenditure; various profit measures; industry value added; capital expenditure, and components of these, as well as performance measures (ratios) derived from them. State and territory estimates of major variables (for the industry excluding services to mining) are included. This publication was produced in alternate years with Australian Mining Industry (cat. no. 8414.0) until the latter publication ceased with the 1998-99 edition.

Clients seeking more recent information relating to mining operations should see Australian Industry (cat. no. 8155.0) which presents estimates derived using a combination of data from the Economic Activity Survey and business tax data sourced from the Australian Tax Office. For most industry divisions and subdivisions (as specified in the Australian and New Zealand Industrial Classification (ANZSIC), 2006 edition), estimates at a national level are presented for: income; expenses; industry value added; operating profit before tax; capital expenditure; and selected components of these aggregates and derivations. State/territory estimates of income, employment, and wages and salaries, at the division level are also included.

Users of ABS mining and other industry statistics are encouraged to access the 'Topics @ a Glance' portal which can be found at the top of the ABS website homepage. This new project is replacing the old 'Theme page' facility with more exciting and dynamic pages, however until this work is completed some pages may still display the title 'Themes'.
