WHEAT GRAIN COMMITTED

In May 2011, wheat grain committed for domestic use or export fell to 5.3 million tonnes, a 21% decrease from April 2011, but an increase of 6% from May 2010.

Of the total wheat grain committed, 4.1 million tonnes were contracted for export. In May 2011, all states reported decreased export commitments from April 2011. Western Australia had the largest decrease with a fall of 715 thousand tonnes (42%). South Australia had the highest total commitments with 1.3 million tonnes, and Western Australia next, with 1.0 million tonnes.

Compared to April 2011, wheat grain committed for domestic use decreased by 3% to 1.2 million tonnes in May 2011. The comparative total for May 2010 was 1.1 million tonnes.
