WHEAT GRAIN USED

The estimate of wheat grain used in October 2009 was 1.2 million tonnes, 15% less than the previous month. Compared to October 2008, total wheat grain used was 20% higher in October 2009.

Wheat grain exports in October 2009 decreased 191 thousand tonnes to 764 thousand tonnes. Compared to the same time last year, exports were 47% higher. South Australia and Western Australia were the only states to record increases in wheat grain exports in October 2009, with increases of 41 thousand and 89 thousand tonnes respectively.

Domestic usage in October 2009 was 388 thousand tonnes, a decrease of 12 thousand tonnes from the previous month. Compared to the same time last year, domestic wheat use was 12% lower in October 2009. New South Wales remained the highest user of wheat grain at 178 thousand tonnes for the month.
