2006-07 AGRICULTURAL SURVEY

Sheepdog and farmer reading questionnaireThe Agricultural Survey is conducted in 4 out of every 5 years (i.e. between census years). It is a commodity based survey of about 35,000 farm businesses, selected from the Australian Business Register, who have an Estimated Value of Agricultural Operations (EVAO), or equivalent, of $5,000 or more per year.

These data are used by primary producers, industry organisations and suppliers, and other agricultural service and support industries for planning and decision making. The Federal and State Governments make extensive use of agricultural statistics for planning, budgets, advisory services and for policies related to marketing agricultural commodities.

Preliminary results from the 2006-07 Agricultural Survey at the state and national level were released on 20 December 2007 in Principal Agricultural Commodities Produced - Preliminary (cat. no. 7111.0). Final estimates will be available on 28 May 2008 at the National, State and Natural Resource Management (NRM) regions levels. Information will also be available for key commodities at Statistical Division (SD) level.

The Agricultural Survey is also the major source of commodity data input into the calculation of Value of Agricultural Commodities Produced (VACP). This major output from the survey is in turn used as an input to the Australian National Accounts.

For research/background information only sample copies of the 2006-07 Agricultural Survey forms are available in Principal Agricultural Commodities Produced - Preliminary (cat. no. 7111.0)
