The 1988-89 Household Expenditure Survey CURF contains data on 27,329 persons belonging to 7,225 households in private dwellings with 542,394 expenditure records including capital city / other urban / rest of State identifiers; household, family and income unit types; age; sex; marital status; birthplace; year of arrival in Australia; labour force details including occupation and hours worked; student status; selected details of credit cards, mortgages and loans; housing costs; nature of housing occupancy; number of bedrooms and type of dwelling structure; number of spenders; weekly income by source of income for persons and households; and average weekly expenditure by 422 fine level commodity codes for households.

This edition of the 1988-89 CURF is no longer available as it has been replaced by a second edition released on 23 September 2008.
