TAXATION PER CAPITA


In 2008-09, taxation per capita was $15,435, a decrease of 4.7% from 2007-08.

The Commonwealth Government taxation per capita fell 4.7% from $13,288 in 2007-08 to $12,662 in 2008-09.

The taxation per capita for state and local governments combined in 2008-09 was $2,796, a decrease of 4.8% from $2,937 in 2007-08.

All states recorded a decrease in taxation per capita with the exception of Northern Territory. Western Australia recorded the highest taxation per capita with $2,987 and Tasmania the lowest at $2,096. Western Australia recorded the highest percentage decrease in taxation per capita, falling 12.4%. The Northern Territory recorded an increase in taxation per capita of 1.2%.
