TAXATION REVENUE AS A PROPORTION OF GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP)

GDP is calculated using data as published in Australian National Accounts, December Quarter 2008 (cat. no. 5206.0), Expenditure on GDP, Current Prices.

Total taxation revenue as a proportion of GDP increased from 30.5% in 2006-07 to 30.8% in 2007-08. As a percentage of GDP, taxation revenue for the Commonwealth Government rose from 25.1% to 25.2%, while taxation revenue for state and local governments was unchanged from 2006-07 (5.6%).
