CHARACTERISTICS OF AUSTRALIAN EXPORTERS

The publication Characteristics of Australian Exporters, 2014-15 (cat. no. 5368.0.55.006) was released on the ABS website on 28 June 2016. This publication provides an analysis of the number and characteristics of Australia's exporters. Estimates on exporters of merchandise trade are compiled from data sourced from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) and from the Australian Taxation Office's (ATO) Australian Business Register. Estimates on exporters of services are compiled largely from the ABS Survey of International Trade in Services (SITS).

PROPOSED CHANGES TO STATISTICAL CODES IN THE AUSTRALIAN HARMONIZED EXPORT COMMODITY CLASSIFICATION (AHECC) AND HARMONIZED TARIFF ITEM STATISTICAL CODE (HTISC) 2017

A review conducted by the World Customs Organisation (WCO) has resulted in a series of changes at the six digit Harmonized Commodity level which will be implemented on 1 January 2017. These changes will impact export statistical codes from the Australian Harmonized Export Commodity Classification (AHECC) (cat. no. 1233.0) and import statistical codes from the Combined Australian Customs Tariff Nomenclature and Statistical Classification. The ABS has been reviewing these impacts and is developing new AHECC and Tariff structures to provide importers, exporters, and users an opportunity to provide feedback about the new structures. These drafts will be published in ABS publications as follow:

  • Information Paper: Proposed Changes to Statistical Codes in the AHECC (cat. no. 5368.0.55.022) will be released on the ABS website on 26 July 2016
  • Information Paper: Proposed Changes to Statistical Codes in the HTISC (cat. no. 5368.0.55.023) will be released on the ABS website on 15 August 2016.
