This publication contains experimental estimates of children enrolled in, and attending preschool in Australia collected through the National Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Collection.

The National ECEC Collection compiles statistics on children, teachers and service providers from all establishments delivering an Early Childhood Education program.

Children enrolled in and attending preschools are presented by various combinations of state/territory, type of preschool (government, non-government, long day care centre), Indigenous status and age.

Experimental Estimates of Preschool Education, Australia 2011 will be released in two stages.

The first release on 7 March 2012, contains 12 tables (in the form of data cubes) on estimates of children in preschools. Estimates for children enrolled in and attending preschools in Queensland are not available for this first release but will be included in the second release.

The second release will contain estimates on further disaggregations of children enrolled in and attending preschools and workers involved in the delivery of preschool programs. Also included will be a full data items list and appendices.

This information will be published as a PDF publication and as data cubes available for download from the ABS website from late March/early April 2012.
