MIGRANT DATA MATRICES

With the recent releases of 2011 Census data, work has been underway in the NMSU to produce an updated Census data cube for inclusion in the Migrant Data Matrices (cat. no. 3415.0), providing access to a wide range of Census data on migrants and ethnicity.

The sixth edition of the Migrant Data Matrices is due for release mid year in June and provides users with links to ABS summary data on migrants. Where available, this includes a broad selection of demographic, geographic, culturally and linguistically diverse and socioeconomic specific items. The data items included are not exhaustive but rather provide a selection of the data available from the 2011 Census.

The June edition will also contain updated data cubes which include migrant data from the following surveys:

· Births 2011
· Deaths 2011
· Marriages and Divorces 2011

In the November 2012 Newsletter we mentioned the development of a new ‘quick search data selection tool’ to enable users to quickly locate data within the Migrant Data Matrices. The tool is a more efficient way of sifting through the various data items and ABS surveys to find out what you need. While this innovation does not yet replace the actual Migrant Data Matrices product users may find it easier to navigate.

As this new tool is still only accessible through the ABS Betaworks site we are interested in your feedback in terms of its usability, so please provide comments about what you like, or do not like, about it.
