The Australian Population Association 15th Biennial Conference is being held from 30 November to 3 December 2010. Population growth and demographic change will be discussed around the theme 'the impacts of generational change'. The conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.

The National Migrants Statistics Unit (NMSU) will be presenting a paper at the conference;
  • Permanent Migration to Australia - Recent Trends in Migration Patterns
      This presentation will provide an overview of the recent trends in migration to Australia, specifically with regard to a migrant's visa category. It aims to provide a broad description of Australia's permanent Migration Program, as well as the changes in patterns of migration by visa category. Using the latest available migrant statistics, data will be included on the major categories of Family and Skilled, as well as the Humanitarian program, and migration by New Zealand citizens. Focus is also given to the granting of onshore residence visas.
