(b) Births registered in NSW increased by almost 10 per cent from the 2014 figure due to delayed processing throughout 2014. See Explanatory Notes 27 and 28.

The Australian Capital Territory recorded the highest median ages of mothers and fathers (31.7 years and 33.7 years respectively), followed by Victoria (31.6 years for mothers and 33.6 years for fathers). The Northern Territory had the youngest mothers (29.5 years), followed by Tasmania (29.8 years). This order was reversed for the father's median age, with 31.9 years for Tasmania and 32.2 years for the Northern Territory. For all median age data, see the dataset Confinements, by nuptiality, by state from the Downloads tab.

In 2015, the Northern Territory recorded the highest TFR (2.11 babies per woman) while Victoria recorded the lowest (1.68 babies per woman). The 2015 TFR for Victoria is the lowest since 2001, when a TFR of 1.63 was recorded. The large increase of births registered in NSW in 2015 accounts for the large increase in TFR. See Explanatory Notes 27 and 28 regarding this increase, which was due to processing delays.
