Copper Coast population on the rise

The Local Government Area of Copper Coast in South Australia had the fastest average annual growth rate of population outside of the capital city from 2004-05 to 2008-09, reaching a population of 12,901 in 2008-09, according to the latest National Regional Profiles, released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Copper Coast also had the third largest increase in the number of persons receiving the Baby Bonus in this period, and one of the largest increases in the number of persons receiving Family Tax Benefit, up 11.4% to 1149 in 2008-09.

National Regional Profiles use a Google Maps based interface to make it easier to find information on Local Government Areas and other types of regions across Australia.

The regional profiles now include information not in previous releases, including tourist accommodation and additional government payments. This adds to the existing economic and social data such as income, age, occupations, building and agriculture.

SA highlights in today's release include:

The Local Government Area of Burnside had the highest average value of private sector houses in 2008-09 of $418,100, while outside of the capital city, Wattle Ranges in the south east had the highest average value of $234,000.

The Local Government Areas of Coober Pedy and Peterborough had the oldest vehicles in South Australia in 2008-09. In Coober Pedy in the far north, 73.5% of vehicles were over ten years old, while in Peterborough in the mid north of the state, 65.4% of vehicles were over ten years old.
