Gold Coast average house values up 42%

The Local Government Area of Gold Coast (C) in Queensland had one of the highest growth rates in the average value of private sector houses with an increase of 42.1%, from 2004-05 to 2008-09, according to the latest National Regional Profiles, released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

The average value of private sector houses rose from $247,300 to $351,400. Within the Statistical Division of Brisbane, the Statistical Local Area of Wynnum had one of the highest growth rates in the average value of private sector houses of 107.2%, from 2004-05 to 2008-09, the average value grew from $201,600 to $417,800,

National Regional Profiles use a Google Maps based interface to make it easier to find information on Local Government Areas and other types of regions across Australia.

The regional profiles now include information not in previous releases, including tourist accommodation and additional government payments. This adds to the existing economic and social data such as income, age, occupations, building and agriculture.

Queensland highlights in today's release include:

Within the Brisbane metropolitan area, the Statistical Local Area of Griffin-Mango Hill recorded a 58.9% increase in the number of people receiving Family Tax Benefits between 2004-05 and 2008-09 (to 1,788). The Griffin-Mango Hill Statistical Local Area also recorded one of Brisbane’s fastest growth rates in population in this period (15.2%).

Outside of Brisbane, the Local Government Area of Lockyer Valley recorded a 9.3% increase in the number of people receiving Family Tax Benefits between 2004-05 and 2008-09 (to 3,590). The population of Lockyer Valley increased by 3.5% per annum over this period, to 35,633; the fifth fastest of the Local Government Areas outside Brisbane.

In 2009 the Local Government Area of Hope Vale had one of the highest percentage of vehicles aged over 10 years at 64.8%. This compares to the Queensland average of 42.8%.
