ABOUT THIS ISSUE This publication provides an early indication of trends in building and engineering construction activity. The data are estimates based on a response rate of approximately 85% of the value of both building and engineering work done during the quarter. More comprehensive and updated results will be released in Engineering Construction Activity, Australia (cat.no. 8762.0) on 1 April 2015 and in Building Activity, Australia (cat. no. 8752.0) on 15 April 2015. DATA NOTES Trend estimates for quarterly work done on Engineering and Total Construction in the Northern Territory have not been released for September and December 2014. The ABS produces trend estimates to best represent the underlying behaviour of the series but the very large movements evident in the original and seasonally adjusted data between June and September prevent the reliable estimation of this behaviour. The ABS will review these trend estimates over the next few quarters with a view to re-establishing the series. The reliability of original and seasonally adjusted estimates are not affected. Trend estimates should be used with caution due to the volatility caused by large engineering projects. For more details on trend estimates, please see paragraphs 24 to 26 of the explanatory notes.
