KEY POINTS
  • The gross value of Australian agricultural production increased 6%, primarily driven by an increase in gross value of livestock due to unfavourable seasonal conditions resulting in higher rates of disposals.
  • The national gross value of wheat increased 12%, reflecting strong domestic demand and increased production, particularly in South Australia and Western Australia.
  • Following record high production and value in 2012-13, the national gross value of canola fell 6% due to unfavourable weather conditions reducing production.
  • The national gross value of livestock slaughterings and other disposals increased across all categories. Sheep and lamb slaughterings increased 19% due to dry conditions and a fall in lamb supply, whilst cattle and calf slaughterings rose 11%.
