EXPLANATORY NOTES

The reference period for 2001, 2006 and 2009 was the year ending 30 June.

The scope of the 2001 and 2006 Agricultural Censuses and the 2008-09 Agricultural Survey was agricultural businesses with an Estimated Value of Agricultural Operations of $5,000 or more.

In 2005-06, the ABS moved to a new frame sourced from the Australian Taxation Office's Australian Business Register (ABR). In addition to the change in frame, there have been changes in methodologies used for determining whether agricultural businesses are 'in scope' of the collection and in some of the ways the data are complied. The key implication of this strategy is that data from 2005-06 is not exactly comparable with earlier data.

Detailed information on the impact of the change can be found in Agricultural Commodities, Australia, 2005-06 (cat. no. 7121.0)
