Reissue

This datacube is a reissue of Household Expenditure Survey, Australia: Detailed Expenditure Items, 2003-04 (cat. no. 6535.0.55.001), initially released on 11 August 2005. The reissue is necessary to correct minor errors that affect 9 components at the 10 digit level of the expenditure classification, none of which impact on the expenditure categories used from the Household Expenditure Survey in compiling weights for the Consumer Price Index. The components that have been revised, and the changes to average weekly household expenditure (AWHE) are:

0101020101 Mortgage repayments - interest component (selected dwelling) - AWHE up $8.02 to $46.26
0101070101 Loans for alterations and additions - interest component - AWHE up $0.46 to $2.00
0801030102 Mobile telephone account - AWHE down $1.90 to $8.91
1102999902 Internet charges (account) - AWHE up $1.90 to $2.81
1302010101 Mortgage repayments - interest component (other property) - AWHE up $0.42 to $6.41

As a result, average weekly household expenditure on goods and services has been revised from $883.45 to $892.83, an increase of $9.38. In addition, minor amendments have been made to net worth - mean household net worth has been revised up $706 to $473,831.

The publication Household Expenditure Survey, Australia: Summary of Results (cat.no. 6530.0) and the associated State tables available on the ABS website have also been reissued.

About this datacube

Summary tables produced from the 2003-04 Household Expenditure Survey have been published in Household Expenditure Survey, Australia: Summary of Results (cat. no. 6530.0). The expenditure data presented in that publication is at a broad commodity level. This data cube provides much more detailed expenditure data, covering expenditure on over 600 commodities. Average weekly household expenditure on these items is provided for each gross household income quintile group, for each state and territory and for each capital city.

For an explanation of the concepts and methods underlying the data, please refer to Household Expenditure Survey, Australia: Summary of Results (cat. no. 6530.0).
