DECEMBER KEY POINTS


FINAL DEMAND (EXCL. EXPORTS)
  • rose 0.2% in the December quarter 2012.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+5.0%) and motor vehicle and motor vehicle part manufacturing (+1.0%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for other agriculture (-19.3%) and pharmaceutical and medicinal product manufacturing (-4.0%).
  • rose 1.0% through the year to the December quarter 2012.


INTERMEDIATE DEMAND
  • rose 0.6% in the December quarter 2012.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for electricity supply; gas supply; and water supply, sewerage and drainage services (+6.9%) and petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+6.0%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for other agriculture (-6.8%), sheep, beef cattle and grain farming; and dairy cattle farming (-6.7%) and coal mining (-10.0%).
  • rose 1.7% through the year to the December quarter 2012.


PRELIMINARY DEMAND
  • rose 0.6% in the December quarter 2012.
  • mainly due to rises in the prices received for electricity supply; gas supply; and water supply, sewerage and drainage services (+6.7%), petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+6.0%) and oil and gas extraction (+2.2%).
  • partly offset by falls in the prices received for coal mining (-9.9%) and sheep, beef cattle and grain farming; and dairy cattle farming (-4.8%).
  • rose 1.4% through the year to the December quarter 2012.

CHANGES IN FUTURE ISSUES

As a result of the Review of the Producer and International Trade Price indexes, the ABS will discontinue a number of price indexes, effective from the September quarter 2013 release of this publication. See page 3 for details of the changes.
