Alternative view of energy supply activity

The February 2008 Research Paper: Developing An Alternative View of Electricity and Gas Supply Activity in Australia (cat. no 4647.0.55.001), examines ways of providing more detailed statistics on the country's electricity & gas supply.

The paper proposes an alternative view be developed to supplement current gas and electricity supply industry statistics. This would provide additional estimates of key economic and financial data for gas extraction activity and gas transmission activity and present separate estimates for aggregate gas supply activity and electricity supply activity.

Preliminary work suggests an alternative activity view would have a significant impact on gas supply estimates compared with current industry data.
