In 2015-16, the total Gross Value of Irrigated Agricultural Production (GVIAP) for Australia was $15.0 billion. Total GVIAP represented 27% of Australia's total Gross Value of Agricultural Production (GVAP) of $56.0 billion in 2015-16.

The three commodities with the highest GVIAP were:

  • fruit and nuts (excluding grapes) at $3.8 billion
  • vegetables at $2.8 billion; and
  • dairy products at $2.1 billion.

Combined, these three commodity groups accounted for 58 percent of total GVIAP for the 2015-16 year.
